Adventures in History

We had an amazing time at the Victorian Fete this morning. Were very excited (and a little nervous) to have our first stall ever ... but it was lovely to be able to talk to people about our work. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken an interest!

The morning was sunny, and the amazing costumes and stalls made the atmosphere great. Unfortunately about 1:30pm it began to bucket down rain! We made some rescue runs to the car with our gear, bur quite a bit got wet (I fear that our carefully painted sign is irrepairably damaged!) We ourselves got particularly wet... it turns out that victorian skirts aren't made for dashing through puddles!

We also enjoyed meeting some local Steam-ers, and got a big buzz from seeing our jewellery displayed in the AWESOME steampunk exhibition in the Forrester gallery. They have some incredible steampunk art - well worth a look

The Victorian Fete

We have been steampunking up a storm in the last few days! We now have over 90 unique jewellery items to take to the Oamaru Victorian Fete this weekend.

We are VERY excited to don our costumes, and sell our wares! Also excited to meet up with a few fantastic steampunkers from the bustling Oamaru community, including Prof Damotimus Tipotus who is opening his steampunk gallery ('The Libratory') tomorrow! We are planning to have items in The Libratory (both for sale and display) very soon.

The Traveller's Memory Clock

This is one of our exhibition pieces, a beautiful upcycled pocket-watch piece:

Here is the story behind the piece:

Lord Percy Higgsworth Walthus, eccentric American entrepreneur and intrepid traveller, sold his successful business at age 42 and squandered his fortune on an airship. He proceeded to embark on an ongoing quest to see all the most exciting sites the world had to occur.

Lord Walthus developed his 'Travellers Memory-clock' over his years of international exursions, to record memories of the places he visited. He was often seen wandering around famous sites holding this pocket-watch like device in his hand. However, Lord Walthus disappeared in a dramatic and mysterious incident on his 66th birthday, while skiing down the side of an Icelandic volcano. His Memory-Clock was later found by mountaineers, at the summit. However, no-where in Walthus'journals is there any description of how the device is to be used, or how memories can be retrieved.
Great mystery therefore surrounds the device, and the multitudinous wonderous experiences that we must assume remain hidden within.

Exhibition in Oamaru

The rocking 'League of Victorian Imagineers' is going full steam at the moment... and have created an awesome steampunk art exhibition we are proud to be part of. Romance Rewound has SIX special items entered, each with a unique steampunk 'history' written about it.

Here is a picture of our pieces, displayed 'all fancy-like' in the Forrester gallery.

We are also EXCITED to announce that Romance Rewound will have a stall at the Victorian fete in Oamaru, on Sunday November 21st! Will have a table brimming with shiny trinkets... hope to see you there!

The Bluebird of Happiness

We seem to have a bit of a blue-an-silver theme going on at the moment. This one is a delightful design, comprising of a silver vintage timepiece, the intrigue of clockwork and the joyful motif of flight. What this picture cannot fully show is the unique multi-layer nature of this pendant. The lower clockwork section is raised, to sit aloft aside the soaring swallow.

Our Blue Sphere

An elegant and artistic timepiece. The base is a vintage silver watch movement, set with a beautiful silver tree, some intricate clockwork pieces and a sparkling blue gemstone. The design follows the motif of our 'blue planet,' and the cycles of living things which characterise the time we spend on it.

Savage Silver

An steampunk ring with an edgy industrial look. Suitable for either the daring Lady or neo-victorian Lord.

This small silver vintage watch movement has been rebuilt by the artists to have a sharp look - the large sparkling emerald gemstone is set in a spiky silver backing, the pseudo-synchronous cog arrangement around it utilises striking spiky silver cogs. Set on a very solid, high quality ring base - a wide silver band which is semi-adjustable.

Tree of Time

An arty, evocative necklace. A silver tree talisman is set on top of a vintage watch face with roman numerals. Backed by a beautiful bronze filigree disk, which reaches out around the clock-face in a sunburst pattern. This pendant is reminiscent of the 'tree of life' - symbolising growth, geneology and the continuity of life.

Sunlight and Sky

This ring comprises of a uniquely shaped minature round watch movement. This vintage piece is adorned with a complex array of clockwork pieces, arranged to appear as a working timepiece.

The fascinating mechanical detail is presented in elegance, framed by a delicate lacework filigree base. The sky-blue gemstone offsets the warmth of this dual-tone ring. Set on an adjustable antiqued-bronze ring base.

Perhaps this elegant mechanism can be used to pause a perfect midsummer moment, and capture the sunlight hours forever.

Secret Moments

This piece was Romance Rewound's very first locket!

A delicate antiqued-gold filigree front with a simple polished-gold back. The elegant outer-casing opens to reveal our own piece of artistry... a miniature vintage watch movement set with gold and silver pseudo-synchronous cogs and clockwork pieces, with a watch hand sitting atop.

Fun to can conceal (and dramatically reveal!) this fascinating little piece of clockwork, from the elegant locket which hangs from a light antiqued-gold coloured chain. Could be worn as a necklace, or as a pocket watch.

Enchanted by Emeralds

This ring is the quintessential steampunk piece - a stunning oval silver miniature watch movement. The original jewellers set the watch with tiny violet jewels, accentuated by a larger emerald gemstone added by the artist. The centrepiece is set on a resizable filigree ring, in a rustic antiqued silver-black-bronze colour.

Evening Rose

This piece is a decadent violet and silver charm bracelet. Black leather, silver chain and rich violet embroidery thread are bound together to form the base of this unique charm bracelet.

The charms are delightful and varied, such as etched silver leaves, interspersed with little elegant silver rose beads. Larger purple glass beads are suspended on delicate silver filigree settings, in between several intriguing clockwork pieces, all with the original purple-tinged gems that the manufacturer has set into the vintage watch movement they were taken from.

The artists have also set one with larger, sparkling purple gemstone to pick up the lavish hue that this bracelet emanates.

Modena Modern

This piece is a stunning combination of larger vintage watchpieces combined together to create a pseudo synchronous movement, including several intriguing and intricate cog mechanisms. The combination of silver, gold and copper gives this piece a touch of modern attitude, but the style is a classic. The front is set with a single violet Swarovski crystal.
